November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month – DANCE for Alzheimer’s Awareness

President Ronald Reagan designated November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in 1983. At the time, fewer than 2 million Americans had Alzheimer’s. Today more than 5 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s and more than 10 million take care for a loved one with this disease. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the USA and is climbing staidly in the rankings. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 25 million baby boomers are expected to develop Alzheimer’s disease between now and 2040.

In President Barack Obama’s 2015 proclamation declaring this month as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, he writes: “Although Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, it is often misunderstood, and misperceptions about the disease can isolate and stigmatize people with dementia and their families.” Despite recent advances in care and research, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Throughout this Alzheimer’s Awareness Month let us support one another and raise awareness about this illness.

This month is our chance to make a big splash about Alzheimer’s.
